Back in mid-February, I shared an article named, “Redos and Retakes Done Right”. This outlined why it’s important for students to have a pathway for re-teaching and re-learning when they fail to demonstrate proficiency on an assessment. Over the past few months, our faculty has developed a reassessment procedure that will be implemented next year. I have attached it for your viewing and to allow you a sample of what we’ll outline at our parent forums on Performance-Based Learning. I’ve listed dates and times where I invite you to learn more about this procedure and how students will be graded on formative assessments (10%) and summative assessments (90%) next year.

The major shift is providing a more consistent way to inform students using formative assessments (10% of final grade) and summative assessments (90% of final grade). Instead of having some classes reporting homework, quizzes, and smaller assessments as different percentages throughout the school, all students will have this make up 10% of the student’s final grade whereas larger tests, projects, and labs will make up 90% of the final grade. This will now be consistent across the school and students will not be penalized during the “practice” portion while learning.

May 8th from 9:00am-10:00am, we will host “Chatting over Coffee” on performance-based learning. We will also host an evening parent presentation on May 10th from 6:00pm-7:00pm in the GHS library. Please RSVP to kdubois@sau73.org or please call 524-7135 so we can anticipate numbers.

It appears the weather is looking nice next week. I hope you are able to enjoy some time with your family.
