Youth and Government

Students assume roles in the New Hampshire state government and prepare for a two weekend mock legislative activity in the spring. Each student is to write or co-author a bill for the program’s bill book, learn parliamentary procedure, and be responsible for their specific roles in the mock legislative activity.

Activites: Youth and Government begins in late October and features at least two meetings per month, sometimes with programs from other schools (Belmont and Laconia). Over the last two months before the spring weekend activities Youth and Government meets weekly. The first program meeting at the State House in the spring features a pre-legislative session for choosing the program’s leaders (governor, Speaker of the House, Senate President, Chief Justice) and getting organized for the two day session. The second program meeting features two days at the State House when the students play out their roles in the New Hampshire state government.

Membership: Any and all students are invited to participate in the Youth and Government Program. There are no specific requirements other than to abide by the general expectations of the program.
