Student editors review submissions of poetry, fiction, essays, photography, and visual art, selecting the school’s top work to showcase. We then put together the layout, and have the magazine published. Obsessive Image has taken many prestigious state and national awards over the years.
Activities: While the magazine is school-funded, Editors annually sell chili at the Craft Fair.
Membership: We graduate a certain number of editors each year; we always try to have editors of different grade levels so that we have a solid nucleus to work with when we enter the next school year. “Old” editors nominate potential “new” editors. Teachers have input on editorial selections, and even students who are simply interested may nominate themselves. A given year’s editors determine how many editor spots they wish to employ (the number is typically eight or nine), and once a given year’s editorial staff is in place they determine the direction of the magazine, putting their own personal stamp on the process.
